Plan to improve development processes

After I write the linear storyline, I then write a new path with a new linear storyline based on my many imaginations of the different scenarios in my head. This is for choice based games. I need a set of up to 2 paths for easy doing as I am autistic. I procrastinate, so I need to set up how long my game will be, how it will be concluded, and how it will end.

Choice-Based Game Development Plan

1. Write the Linear Storyline (Path 1)

  • Objective: Begin by writing a complete, straightforward linear storyline.
    • Develop the main story arc, including key events, character decisions, and a clear conclusion.
    • Keep this path simple to ensure it flows smoothly and provides a cohesive player experience.

2. Create a Second Linear Storyline (Path 2)

  • Objective: Build a second path based on alternative scenarios from your imagination.
    • Reflect on different outcomes or situations that your characters could experience.
    • Ensure this path still follows a linear progression but offers contrasting choices and consequences from Path 1.
    • Keep this path consistent with the first in terms of quality and structure but varied in content.

3. Define Game Length and Conclusion

  • Objective: Plan how long your game will be and how it will conclude.
    • Set realistic limits on the number of chapters, levels, or sections for both paths.
    • Determine the total playtime by estimating the number of hours or scenes per path.
    • Make sure both paths have clear conclusions that tie into the overall story arc.

4. Set the Ending for Each Path

  • Objective: Write down the specific endings for each path.
    • Ensure each path ends logically based on the choices made.
    • The endings should feel rewarding and complete, giving closure to both paths without leaving loose threads.

5. Time Management & Procrastination Strategy

  • Objective: Set manageable deadlines to avoid procrastination.
    • Break down the development process into smaller tasks (e.g., writing one scene per day).
    • Use a timer or calendar to stay on track with specific milestones for writing, testing, and reviewing.
    • Reward yourself after completing each task to keep motivation high.

6. Stay Focused on Two Paths

  • Objective: Keep the game simple with only two paths.
    • Avoid overwhelming yourself with too many branching choices.
    • Focus on perfecting these two paths and the narrative clarity for players.

Conclusion:

By following this structured approach, you can create a choice-based game that remains easy to manage, helps you stay focused, and allows for a satisfying experience with two unique storylines and endings. Set clear deadlines, and always keep the scope manageable to prevent procrastination.
