Unique Adoption Relationship

"Pretty White Smile" Character Relationships Overview:

Unique Adoption Relationship:

Emma Battlefield has an unusual relationship dynamic with both her adoptive and biological parents.

Open vs. Closed Adoptions:

Traditionally, many adoptions are closed, but Emma's situation reflects a growing trend: over 70% of modern-day women opting for adoption choose open adoptions.

Reasons for Open Adoptions:

Open adoptions allow biological mothers to maintain contact with their children post-adoption, a choice often made due to financial hardships or traumatic circumstances.

Emma and Her Biological Mother:

  - Emma still has interactions with her biological mother, Anna Winters, thanks to the open nature of her adoption.

Legal Agreement:

  - Beauty Battlefield, Emma's adoptive mother, holds a contract that ensures ongoing contact between Emma and Anna, accommodating Anna’s refusal to proceed with an adoption that would sever her ties to Emma.

Outcome:

This arrangement allows Emma to be fully aware of her biological mother’s identity, fostering an open and transparent relationship.

What makes Emma's Adoption so Unique?

Usually, in fiction, adopted children either never see their biological parents, are angry at them, want to kill them, or love them but, after meeting them once, are either rejected by the biological parents, with favoritism from the media toward adoptive mothers and fathers, or they meet and are kind to each other but are never seen again. Not only that but in stories, the adoptive parents hide the fact that they adopted the child and never want the biological parents involved at all, which isn't far from reality.

Adoptive parents often try to keep the biological parents away, with biological mothers attempting to take the child back, leading to custody battles, cut-off contact, or feelings of threat from the biological parents.

However, Emma's situation is unique. Emma maintains a close relationship with her adoptive mother, Beauty Battlefield; her biological mother, Anna Winters; her adoptive father, Tyrone Battlefield; and her biological father, George Autumn. Despite living with her adoptive parents, because hers was an open adoption, they visited her and even started to babysit her when she was three, while her biological mother was trying to get back on her feet

The only issue is Outsiders.

People who observe this relationship are very critical, viewing Anna as having abandoned Emma and not caring about her. They perceive her mom as weak, not recognizing the strong woman she truly is. Anna had her money stolen by her ex, leaving her financially unable to care for Emma. Furthermore, Anna never allowed any prospective adoptive parents intent on a closed adoption to take the child, knowing they intended to separate her from her child permanently.
